More often than not, I have been the only person of non-white ethnicity in my team, on the entire floor, or in most meetings. Born in the UK with Indian ethnic origins, I come from a family that has spent three generations living in East Africa. My educational journey was shaped by the British educational system, and it was during my university years that I realized ethnicity should not limit my opportunities. I have enjoyed a rich multicultural social circle, yet I often found myself compartmentalized due to societal perceptions of my skin tone. Through self-development and continuous learning, I gained a deeper understanding of my values, which propelled me on a journey of Conscious Inclusion, allowing me to live by the principles I believe in. This journey has empowered me to create opportunities for others, embracing Diversity and Inclusion regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, physical ability, age, or neurodiversity. I strive to recognize fellow humans for their values and qualities rather than superficial characteristics. I am proud to be among the 6.1% of UK SME leaders who come from a BAME background, committed to advancing ED&I in every aspect of my work.
